This selection draws heavily on the collections in the Louvre and the Metropolitan museums and includes important representative objects from the major cultures of the Ancient Near East: Akkadian, Assyrian, Babylonian, Elamite, Sumerian, Achaemenid Persian, Sassanian, and Parthian, as well as Neolithic and Iron Age objects.

Included are the Victory Stele of Naram-Sin, the Stele of Hammurabi, statues of Gudea, and the statue of Queen Napirasu of Elam . Sites photographed include Persepolis and the tombs and relief sculpture at Naqsh-i Rustam, including the Sassanian Triumph of Shapur I.
